General
Tenerife offers a greater variety of climate than most of the other islands. Temperatures on the coast are very different from those in the interior of the island. The peaks of the central mountain range are covered with snow in winter because of their height (Teide 3717m).
Because of the Teide’s influence, the island is divided into two climate and vegetation zones.
The south is desert like, sunny and dry and, because of its pleasant spring climate from January to December, is particularly popular with holiday bathing guests. The largest centres of tourism are also to be found here.
The north on the other hand is green, damp and has almost tropical vegetation. Active holidaymakers particularly enjoy the mild, even temperatures in this part of the island.
Information of interest
Tenerife was known for centuries as the "land of scents" and "island of constant spring". Since there are no great variations in temperature on Tenerife, you can spend your holidays here without regard for a specific time of the year.
The minimum and maximum average annual temperatures on Tenerife are 15°C in winter and 24°C in summer. So you will always have beautiful weather and the most pleasant of climates.
Vast stretches of Tenerife can be compared to a botanic garden with luxurious vegetation and a great variety of nature. However the rocky cliffs and the desert like beaches in the south of the island are also quite breathtaking. Bizarre too is the landscape of the Cañadas, the volcanic plateau at the foot of the Teide, which is the highest mountain in Spain. In taking a trip through this varied countryside, you will cross through almost all types of climate zones of our planet.
Beaches
Even though the north of Tenerife is not exactly famous for its beaches, there are nevertheless several inviting swimming opportunities close to Las Cañitas.
The nearest swimming beach is in Garachico. Right on the outskirts is a small swimming beach and a little further into the village are the impressive natural lava pools. There is also a large seawater swimming pool.
The Playa San Marcos in Icod de los Vinos can be reached from the finca in about 25 minutes.
You can reach Playa La Arenas and Punta Teno and Buenavista in about 20 minutes.
Should it be a cloudy day in the north, it is worth taking the 45 minute trip to Los Gigantes in the south.
The sandy beaches created by the artist from Lanzarote, César Manrique, and the bathing areas in Puerto de la Cruz are also worth a visit. These can be reached by car in 30 minutes.
The Playa de las Teresitas, a picturesque white beach, nearby Santa Cruz, is also very impressive. Here tons of white Sahara sand were deposited in the seventies to create an artificial beach, which is protected from the Atlantic by a protecting mole. The water here is shallow and warm and therefore very suitable for children. The beach can be reached easily by car in about an hour.
